Greetings all! Spring has sprung and The Clippers have a spring in their step because we’ve almost finished recording our next album and we’re loving it!
After not recording for so long we were a bit wary of going to the studio. It’s never been a truly happy hunting ground for us. You know. We’re a live act. But we’ve had a ball!
It may be an indictment on our past selves but this time when we recorded there were no drugs, no alcohol and no friends hanging round and boy did it make a difference. People were concentrating, they could listen to ideas and put them into practice really quickly. No-one said “Oops. Sorry” or “Aarghh! I’ve fucked it up again!” or “I just can’t get it!” Actually I said all of the above but I don’t want to go into it. Let’s just say Rawhide won’t be on the record.
We got Garrett Costigan to come in and play pedal steel on a few tracks. Boy is he good!
We rerecorded some of the old favourites like Footscray and The Ute (at least the 5th time in my life that I’ve put that song on a record but we’ve done a job on it so its almost a pop song now), some newies that you already know if you’ve been to the gig a few times and some that you’ve never heard before.
Can’t wait to hear what you think.
And now for today’s band joke….
Big Jim saved my life once when I was being beaten up outside a pub by a bunch of guys. He told the rest of the band “He’s had enough.”
Cheers!
Stretch Denholme, lead vocalisator.

Kingston Harvest Festival 16th May, 2009
So there we were last Sat’dy arvo at The City of Kingston harvest festival in downtown Carrum just a stone’s skip from Patterson Lakes for a 45 minute set before racing off to The GPB. It was a family day so we decided to abandon the smut content for which we’re known and reviled throughout the length and breadth of St Kilda and keep it wholesome. No swearing, no dirty ditties. Just good clean cowboy fun with songs about cows and horses and sheep and dying in the desert and that sort of thing with those marvy 4 part harmonies . Apparently it worked. There was cheering for encoresand this not from the lighting and security guy arrived today…
CLIPPERS SUPPORT RYAN ADAMS AT THE FORUM!
Yep. We did 2 nights ( Jan 30, 31) supporting Ryan and were wondering how we’d go over with the young alt-country set but we needn’t have worried. They loved us. Laughed at Kylie. Sang along when cajoled. Top fun.
Ryan’s drummer liked us (“You guys are good. I dig that Kylie’s Arse , man.”) so he got a copy of the new album with the latest version of Kylie’s Arse on it. The bass player liked my “Keith Richards for President” t-shirt.
Horse was unimpressed with the catering on the first night. It was all vegetarian stuff but fortunately on night 2 there was plenty of meat to go round. We were happy with the temperature of our beer rider on the first night but it wasn’t nearly cold enough on night 2.
After our successful opening night we got a bit cocky by Saturday. That was a foolish mistake. They turned the foldback off on us. Coincidence? You have to wonder don’t you if a Ryan management type didn’t think “No. They’re going over too well. We’ll have to throw a spanner into their works. It was a bit offputting not to be able to hear but we’re Clippers. We’ve played with shit PAs all our life. That wasn’t going spoil our fun.
A top time was had by all. Now let’s see how long it takes to get paid.
WHEN IN MELBOURNE, YOU'D BE A MUG TO MISS US!
